Moonshine Collaboration

Still’n the Clear is dedicated to the art, craft, and science of home distillation for everyone.

We adopt an inclusive and collaborative approach and aim to make knowledge available to all through a series of articles, livestream events, and our MeWe group ‘Moonshine for Beginners’

If you aren't a member of this wonderful group you are really missing out on all kinds of help, comradery, and collaborations like this one. Here's an invitation to the best home distilling group on the internet. To join, just click the button bellow and fill out a simple MeWe.com profile.

We are fortunate to have followers and members of all levels who share a common goal, to help and encourage those who are new to home distilling.

From making or buying your own still to making your first spirit, our aim is to support you every step of the way

On that basis I’m delighted to announce our very first collaborative ‘all grain moonshine mash’ which will be streamed live on May 15th, 2022 on Still’n the Clear.

I hope you will join in with us for ‘Monster Mash’ and share your experiences with others as we go through the whole process together.

Together, we will make an all-grain mash that we will ferment ‘on the grain’. Where possible we will use the same type of equipment, ingredients and methodology and have some fun along the way.

We will allow the mash to ferment and then run a second event where we will complete the distillation.

I am announcing this now so that people who want to participate have the chance to accumulate everything they will need in good time to take part. We expect participants from the USA, Canada, and parts of Europe.

To take part, you will need the following;

  • Malted barley, cracked corn and table sugar. We will be using 1lb (0.5kg) of grain per gallon of water, so if you are planning on using 6 US gallons of water you will need 1 ½ lbs of malted barley, 4 ½ lbs of cracked corn, and 6 lbs of table sugar for a gravity boost.

  • Fermenting vessel (This can be an open vessel or sealed with an airlock)
  • A triple scale hydrometer and a proof and tralle hydrometer
  • Yeast. For those taking part in North America we are recommending DADY ( Distillers Dried Active Yeast) which is available from Amazon.com. For those in Europe we recommend Still Spirits Whiskey Yeast, available from Amazon.co.uk
  • Some form of water heater
  • A still

I do hope you will be able to join us in this collaboration, and I look forward to hearing all about your experiences.
